How to Block WhatsApp Spam Messages

WhatsApp is a popular messaging program that lets you communicate text messages, photos, videos, and audio files. With the rise in popularity of WhatsApp, the method of spamming has evolved, resulting in WhatsApp Spam. WhatsApp spam is unwanted, irrelevant, and unverified data or communications distributed via WhatsApp.

These spam messages contain dangerous content and URLs that can be used to spoof and hack your smartphone’s data. Spam messages on WhatsApp can take the form of adverts or rumors, and they can permanently damage your device.

The only method to stop these spam communications is to track down and block the number from which they originate. Given WhatsApp’s 1.5 billion users, it’s hardly surprising that spam is a widespread occurrence. You need to know how to recognize WhatsApp threats, whether it’s a scam, a phishing effort, or just plain old marketing nonsense from firms, so you can-

  • The sender will be blocked.
  • Make sure you’re not jeopardizing your safety.

How to check for fake, spot spam WhatsApp Messages:

Identifying WhatsApp spam among other messages received on the app is the first step in dealing with it. Here are some of the most prevalent forms of WhatsApp spam messages and how to recognize them.

1. Frequently-Forwarded Messages

The majority of WhatsApp users are aware that the software allows them to transmit messages received from one person to another. It’s crucial to understand the difference.

If a message is submitted more than five times, it’s nearly certainly spam, whether it’s just another boring meme, bogus news, or something more nefarious.

2. Bad Grammar & Spelling Mistakes

Excessive usage of emojis is also a red flag that the message is spam. Aside from that, some words and phrases used by senders are dead giveaways that they are spam. They may include the sender claiming to be a member of the WhatsApp staff, requesting that you contact them regarding an uncertain issue with your WhatsApp account, or congratulating you on receiving a WhatsApp gift.

3. Unrecognized Numbers

WhatsApp allows you to send a message to anyone whose phone number you have. That means spammers can scour the internet for contact information, purchase lists of active phone numbers on the dark web, and even hack other services that have your phone number on file, then send you an unwelcome message.

Because it’s exceedingly improbable that you’ll ever have such a sender in your contact book, it’ll always appear as an unknown number in your WhatsApp inbox.

4. Messages With Suspicious Links

You already know it’s not a good idea to open a message from an unknown sender that contains a link. Malicious links meant to obtain your login details, bank information, and other sensitive personal data make up a large portion of WhatsApp spam messages.

In this situation, the sender is attempting to persuade you to forward the message in order to continue spreading dangerous links or to click on a link within the message. Be cautious that scammers may use a variety of techniques to conceal their true intentions.

5. Specific Wording

Spam frequently employs the same general tricks to deceive you. According to WhatsApp’s documentation, there are four different sorts of message wording to be mindful of:

  • The sender claims to be a WhatsApp employee.
  • The message’s content provides directions for forwarding it.
  • You can escape punishment, such as account suspension, if you forward the mail, according to the message.
  • A prize or gift from WhatsApp or another individual is included in the content.

If you receive a communication that meets one of the conditions, delete it as soon as possible.

  • If you don’t want the contact form to transmit spam messages, photos, or videos to WhatsApp, click “OK.”

3. Restrict Who Can Add You to Groups

Spam in groups is a major problem. You’ll frequently find yourself added to groups that you don’t want to be a member of, whether it’s because of an overly eager buddy, someone who has your phone number, or a scammer on the other side of the world.

WhatsApp introduced a new privacy feature in 2019 that allows you to control who can add you to new groups. Everyone, My Contacts, and My Contacts Except are the three options offered. Go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups to get started.
