Realme Set to Announce New Phone in India on January 3, Could Be Realme 12 Series

The Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Realme is all set to announce a new phone in India on January 3. Those who are planning to buy a budget-friendly Realme 12 smartphone this new year will be pleased to know this.

Realme is preparing to release a series of new smartphones in 2024. Last month, the brand introduced the Realme C67 5G in India. Shortly after, they also released a 4G version of the same handset. Realme India has officially announced that they will be providing an update regarding an upcoming phone in the near future. Speculations suggest that the upcoming device could be the Realme 12 series or the Realme GT 5 Pro expected to be launched in India. The brand released Realme GT 5 Pro in China in December.

Realme India took to its X (formerly known as Twitter) on the morning of New Year’s Day and shared a post that hints about an upcoming smartphone launch. The post stated, “Stay tuned for the real update.” Since then, there have been rumours that Realme is planning to announce a new phone, specifically the Realme 12 series, on January 3. However, they have not unveiled anything about the model of the smartphone they are planning to launch this new year.

It is important to know that the company has not made an official announcement regarding the 12 series at this time. However, it recently hinted at the release of a new flagship smartphone featuring a periscope camera via its X post. According to the teaser shared by Realme on X, the upcoming new smartphone will feature improved zoom capabilities. There is speculation that the company is planning to release Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+.

According to reports, the Realme 12 series smartphones have already been listed on the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) website with the model numbers RMX3842 and RMX3840. The upcoming model is said to have 5G connectivity. Also, it is expected to feature a periscope lens.

Aside from that, the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ were previously seen on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, suggesting that they may be released in India soon. The high-end Pro+ models have also been reportedly spotted on Indonesia’s SDPPI certification site. Furthermore, the Realme 12 Pro series smartphones have also been approved by certification platforms in other countries, including the UAE and Malaysia.

The Features of Upcoming Realme 12 Series

According to reports, the Realme 12 Pro series is rumoured to come equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset. In addition, both phones are anticipated to feature a curved-edge OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, the 12 Pro is expected to include a high-resolution 32-megapixel IMX709 telephoto camera capable of 2x optical zoom and a 5,000mAh battery. And the 12 Pro+ will come equipped with a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B periscope telephoto camera that offers 3x optical zoom.

The 12 Pro series is anticipated to feature a unique circular camera design, incorporating dual sensors and a rectangular periscope lens. Also, you can expect a punch-hole display design on the front, along with high-speed fast charging support. According to reports, the Realme 12 Pro series will also come along with a charger, similar to its previous models.

The Launch of Upcoming Realme 12 Series

The 12 Pro series is anticipated to launch in China during the first quarter of 2024. Realme has not yet confirmed the launch of the new Realme 12 Pro series in India. However, leaks strongly indicate that the device is in development and will likely be released this year.

The Cost of Upcoming Realme 12 Pro Series

According to reports, the Realme 12 Pro is expected to be priced at CNY 2,099 (approximately INR 25,000) in China for the variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The price of the Indian model is expected to fall within a similar range. However, nothing can be said at this point. But it seems that the wait for the new model is going to be worthwhile for people planning to invest in a new smartphone this year.
